Mandela Day 67 at Amanzimtoti Child and Family Welfare Society

 

 

This Mandela Day Dube TradePort Special Economic Zone together with other leading businesses in the region undertook a project

that is aimed at reinvigorating the Amanzimtoti Child and Family Welfare Society, which is situated in the South of Durban.

This day was commemorated in line with the Mandela Day’s Foundation theme, which is framed around the food and nutrition

the programme, under the 2022 theme, “Do what you can, with what you have, wherever you are.”

 



KZN leaders gathered at the Child and Family Welfare Society to pledge their support and commitments throughout July 2022.

The organizations that form part of this powerful partnership include Bidvest Freight, Grindrod SAPREF, Dube TradePort, Build It,

eThekwini Maritime Cluster, and South African Association of Ship Operators and Agents (SAASOA) and

Trade & Investment KwaZulu Natal (TIKZN).

 

 

Pledges include the planting of a Fruit and Vegetable Garden by SAPREF which was coupled with gardening tools to ensure

future maintenance. Dube TradePort partnered in the same project and has pledged to ensure the sustainability of the garden

and the deployment of Agricultural experts to explore options for securing the crops that will be planted as well as the future

sustainability of the garden.

 

 

Commenting, Nolufefe Ali, Dube TradePort Corporate Services Executive, “In our experience, we have found that the

socio-economic benefits of community gardens can help to ease some of the pressures associated with running a centre of

this nature. Dube TradePort Corporation sees a community garden that is easily adapted to a communal environment like the

Amanzimtoti Child and Family Welfare Society.

With the increased criminal activity in the society’s location, Bidvest has begun the installation of a high-tech automated security

system for the facility to ensure the safety of assets and the donations received from members of the community. TNPA has also

taken the security of the facility to the next level and installed palisade fencing where some of the security items will be installed.

Build It has pledged for the painting of the palisade fencing which was also the key focus of the day’s activities

by the different executives of KZN Businesses. “Bidvest Freight is appreciative to have been invited and given the chance to

participate in this initiative. Investing in projects that have a significant and beneficial impact on the local society and community

is something that is very important to us as a company,” says Mr Wiseman Madinane, CEO of Bidvest Freight. Grindrod is

commencing the interior renovations of the facility. These will include the broken ceilings as well as the painting work.

TIKZN have delivered blankets for the children based at foster homes in and around Amanzimtoti arranged by the Welfare Society.

 

 

Amanzimtoti Child and Family Welfare Society have provided services for the past 77 years to children, youth and families in the

Amanzimtoti and surrounding informal and rural communities through the various methods of social work, this is, casework,

group work; research and community work services. Amanzimtoti Child and Family Welfare Society has been providing services to

children, youth, and families in Amanzimtoti and surrounding informal and rural communities for the past 77 years through various

methods of social work, including casework, group work, research, and community work services.

 

 

Amanzimtoti child and family welfare society is primarily a designated child protection agency, and its core function is the care and

protection of orphan and vulnerable children. Professional therapeutic social work intervention services are rendered to children who

have been orphaned, have parents that are unfit to care for them, and children that are sexually abused; physically abused, or neglected;

abandoned as well have children who have been exploited.



At the end of the formal proceedings, KZN Growth Coalition Co-Chairperson, Mr Moses Tembe pledged a sum of R 20 000 towards the society.

“I am inspired by the work done by each and every one of the staff at this facility. With this small token, I would like to encourage you not to give

up and keep on serving our communities, said Mr Tembe.



Many of the activities that have been committed by the various stakeholders will continue in phases throughout the month of July 2022.

“As Amanzimtoti Child and Family Welfare Society, we are eternally grateful for the ability to be able to take care of the children and families

that we serve. Today, we experienced Christmas July and we will never forget what each and every organisation has done here today,”

said Mr. Mapolisa Simeon Cele, Chairperson of Amanzimtoti Child and Family Welfare.
